Biotechnology

Ag BioTech InfoNet - Chuck BenbrooK
An excellent resource. It contains hundreds of articles on the many issues surrounding biotechnology. Best plase to start looking!

Biotechnology Industry Organization
lists news, information, links and more about the biotechnology industry. It discusses a wide array of topics such as Bt corn and Monarch butterflies, food lableling, government regulations, and specific products, all from the point of view (vigorously pro-GMF!) that one would expect from an association of hundreds of giants and upstarts in and around the international biotechnolgy industry. Most of their GMF-related information can be found at www.bio.org/food&ag/main.html.

Favorite Quotes from Biotech proponents

Friends of the Earth
FOE oppose GMFs. They tell you why you should too, and offer a copious quantity of information about their positions and links to other sites starting in their Real Food pages.

Guardian | GM rice promoter gone too far

GeneWatch - Ethics and Risks of Genetic Engineering

Greenpeace
Its genetic engineering pages and "True Food" genetically engineered food pages offer discussions about why genetic engineering and GMFs are bad, and links to information and like-minded sites.

Institute of Science in Society
The Institute of Science in Society is an independent non-profit research and educational organization founded on the principle of promoting open, independent, responsible, sustainable science that is integrated with society and not contrary to its interests. It does not like GMFs, and presses its case against biotechnology aggressively and with scientific specificity.

Monsanto As befitting one of the giants of GMFs, they have created an unceasingly and completely positive picture of GMFs at their web site. They offer a polished advocacy of a technology they have had a large hand in shaping, and are a good source of friendly and supportive information about most aspects of the industry. Check their articles library:

Natural Environment Research Council
(NERC)
is "one of the seven UK Research Councils which fund and manage research in the UK. NERC is the leading body in the UK for research, survey, monitoring and training in the environmental sciences." Its GMF pages offer a brief overview of what genetically modified organisms are, genetic engineering techniques, questions and answers about concerns with GMFs, and sort case histories of some particular products. This site looks at potential benefits and dangers, and does not advocate one position over another.
